Courage Campaign Issues Committee Announces Opposition to Propositions 1A-1F

LOS ANGELES -Providing progressive activists the information they need, the Courage Campaign Issues Committee is distributing its “Special Election 2009 Progressive Voter Guide,” an online guide designed to help voters understand the six measures on the May 19, 2009 Special Election ballot. The California-based multi-issue advocacy group, now numbering over 700,000 members, also announced its members have voted to oppose Propositions 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E and 1F.
“We believe these propositions do not offer the kind of progressive solutions California needs — instead they will likely make our budget situation worse over the next few years,” said Rick Jacobs, chair of the Courage Campaign Issues Committee. “Prop 1A won’t do a single thing to help the immediate budget crisis. In fact, it will force cuts in good times and make it even harder to balance future budgets.”
The Courage Campaign’s 2009 Progressive Voter Guide contains short, easy-to-read, recommendations, a handy chart of recommendations from numerous leading progressive organizations across California, including the California Democratic Party, the California Nurses Association, the California Teachers Association and the League of Women Voters.
“We want our members to be informed, not afraid. Our goal is to educate and empower Californians to choose wisely among these complicated initiatives,” Jacobs added.
Jacobs noted that while several progressive Democratic legislators and organizations support the May 19 propositions, the day after the election is the time to push for truly progressive solutions to California’s problems.
“No matter the outcome of the election, on May 20 we will work with them to implement progressive solutions that will finally solve our budget crisis,” added Jacobs. “Together we will craft a budget that asks the wealthiest pay their fair share, not those who can least afford it during this economic downturn.”
