Progressive Advocacy Organizations Launch “PickYourPresident.org” Presidential Poll of Members and Supporters

One day after New Hampshire primary, Progress Now (Colorado), Courage Campaign (California), Progress Michigan, Progress Ohio, Fuse (Washington) and One Wisconsin Now ask members to cast vote for president

DENVER, Colo., January 9, 2008 – Today, following the surprising election results from Iowa and New Hampshire, six progressive advocacy organizations from Colorado, California, Michigan, Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin launched a ten-day coordinated online poll to survey their members’ preferences for president. The six statewide organizations represent more than one million members and supporters combined.

The poll, launched today, is at:

“For the first time since 1952, neither party has an ‘heir apparent’ running,” said Mike Huttner, Executive Director of Progress Now, the Colorado group that also serves as the center of the network of state organizations. “The country is hungry for change. Anyone can win, so it’s our duty to understand the pulse and sense of our members in each state and collective.”

“California — which will provide some 20% of the delegates for the party nominating conventions — began voting on Monday, either by mail or early voting.” said Rick Jacobs, Chair and Founder of California’s Courage Campaign. “By the actual ‘Tsunami Tuesday’ election on February 5, close to half of California’s 15 million registered voters may have already cast their ballot. By asking our members to vote in this online poll today and discuss it with their friends, we are helping them determine what they will actually do when they fill out their official ballot.”

The poll results are available at:

Candidate rankings will be updated frequently for each state as well as all six states combined.

The six state organizations each operate independently and act as the online organizing and communication hub for progressives in their respective states. Progress Now, Courage Campaign, Progress Michigan, Progress Ohio, Fuse and One Wisconsin focus on state issues, often with national ramifications.
