Watch "Insurance Jive" and sign on as a Citizen Co-Sponsor of H.R. 676
It doesn't have to be this way
We would like to warmly welcome members and supporters of CREDO Action. Our television ad is not what you might expect. It's not traditional. Or typical.
It's called "Insurance Jive" and it features a nurse (actor Beth Broderick of "Lost")
who -- reminiscent of the Barbara Billingsley character in the 1980 movie "Airplane" -- translates insurance jargon for a hospital patient and her husband.
Sounds funny, right? Well, "Insurance Jive" actually packs a punch. State Senator Sheila Kuehl and our friends at the California Nurses Association liked the ad so much, they decided to put up money to air it in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
As Beth Broderick says in "Insurance Jive"... it doesn't have to be this way.
That's why we are asking you to sign on as a Citizen Co-Sponsor of H.R. 676,
the U.S. National Health Insurance Act -- a bill introduced by Rep. John Conyers and co-sponsored by 86 members of the House of Representatives that would expand Medicare to provide affordable, quality coverage for all Americans. On Friday, we'll deliver your signatures to Rep. Conyers.
According to Physicians for a National Health Care Program, a leading organization behind H.R. 676, the bill would restore our right to choose our physicians and free us from insurance company red tape and interference in medical decisions.
This landmark single-payer health insurance legilslation would also cover everyone for all necessary medical care and end deductibles and co-payments, saving billions annually by eliminating the high overhead and profits of the private health insurance industry and HMOs.
H.R. 676 has already been endorsed by 30 state labor federations, 94 Central Labor Councils, and 348 union locals and other labor organizations in 48 states. And it was just endorsed by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
If we can continue to build a movement to expand the Medicare system to all Americans, we can cut out the corporations and change the game.
