Meghan McCain: Have a Courageous Conversation with your father

Ask Meghan McCain to talk about repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" with Sen. John McCain before it's too late

It’s hard to believe, but it’s possible that the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” -- which will likely be debated in the Senate next week -- could come down to one heart-to-heart conversation between a daughter and her father.

Meghan McCain, who has come out strongly in favor of gay rights in the last year, could be the only person in the world who might be able to convince her father, John McCain, to drop his unprecedented threat to support a filibuster of the entire defense budget bill in his attempt to stop the repeal of DADT.

Why Meghan McCain? Because she gets it. Meghan supports gay rights, and she’s the probably the only one who can express it to her father in a way that might change his mind -- and his heart. But first we need to convince her to have what we like to call a “Courageous Conversation” with her dad.

Please join us in asking Meghan McCain to have a Courageous Conversation with her father before the Senate debates the defense budget bill next week:

Dear Meghan:

We, the undersigned, urge you to have a Courageous Conversation with your father. You are in a unique position to convince him to withdraw his threat to filibuster the defense budget bill and undermine the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

You've become a leader in the fight to modernize your party's position on gay rights. And you understand that the most important way to change someone’s mind about equality for gays and lesbians is by having a conversation with a loved one.

There's no time to lose. Please have a Courageous Conversation with your father as soon as possible, and ask him to do the right thing for our armed forces and for equal rights, and withdraw his threat to filibuster the defense budget bill.

Sincerely,
