Urge Senator Feinstein to carry on Senator Kennedy's legacy on health care reform

The most significant tribute to Sen. Kennedy's life will be the passage of universal health care reform, including a strong public option.

Sen. Feinstein is one of the key swing votes in the Senate Democratic caucus. Other moderate Senators respect her views and follow her cues. If Sen. Feinstein expressed her strong public support for the public option, it would be a turning point in the health care reform effort.

Now is the time for Sen. Feinstein to make a strong public statement in favor of the public option.

We, the undersigned, urge you to make a strong public statement supporting the choice of a public health insurance option.

With health care reform including a public option -- and the lives of millions of Americans who are uninsured, under-insurance or limited to no competitive choices -- hanging in the balance, now is the time for you to stand with the late Senator Edward Kennedy and honor his legacy by enacting the mission he worked so hard to achieve.

You are in a unique position to lead the effort in the Senate to fundamentally reform health care. As the Senate prepares to reconvene after the August recess, we are asking you to use that influence to speak out publicly in support of a public option.
