Chairman Carl Levin: Don't wait. Don't delay. End "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" now.
Watch the video and sign our letter calling for inclusion of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal in the defense budget bill
At the first Congressional hearing on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in 17 years, Joint Chiefs of
Staff Chairman Mike Mullen and Defense Secretary Robert Gates gave game-changing testimony strongly supporting the repeal of DADT. But John McCain and other recalcitrant Republicans are defying the military's leadership.
Our friends at Daily Kos put together this video showing Senator McCain's flip-flop on
the issue. McCain said in October 2006 he would support repeal of DADT if the military leadership said the policy should be changed. That's exactly what happened at the Congressional hearing. Yet McCain said he still opposes repeal.
Let's show the Senate that John McCain is wrong. Senator Carl Levin, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, can take the lead by including DADT repeal in the defense budget bill. Please join Lt. Dan Choi and the Courage Campaign and demand
that Senator Levin use the defense budget bill to repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell":
Chairman Carl Levin:
We, the undersigned, urge you to act immediately to stop the discharge of gay and lesbian soldiers as a result of the discriminatory "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" policy.
Please include repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in the upcoming defense authorization bill to ensure the policy is ended by Congress as quickly as possible. Dedicated soldiers who want to serve their country -- like Lt. Choi, an Arabic translator -- can't afford to wait.
