Tell the oil companies: Stop polluting California and clean up the Gulf!

Sign the Courage Campaign letter to the CEOs of Valero, Tesoro, and Occidental

By now you've seen the horrible pictures of the devastation the BP oil disaster has caused to the Gulf Coast. As with Hurricane Katrina, many individuals and companies are pitching in to help the cleanup effort. But not Big Oil.

Amidst the worst ecological disaster in American history and the crippling of the Gulf CoastÂ’s economy, Bill Klesse, Greg Goff and Ray Irani -- the CEOs of Valero, Tesoro and Oxy -- are arrogantly bankrolling a huge campaign to bring even more pollution to California.

15 oil companies have combined to spend $2 million to pollute California, with Valero, Tesoro and Oxy spending the most. That's wrong. The Courage Campaign will deliver a letter to the CEOs of Valero, Tesoro and Oxy demanding that they donate at least the same amount -- $2 million -- to clean up the Gulf and help thousands of families whose lives have been ruined by the oil spill. Will you sign our letter?

We, the undersigned, are outraged that your oil companies have been spending millions of dollars to undermine California's clean energy and green jobs laws so you can bring more pollution to our environment, while the Gulf Coast suffers from the devastation caused by your fellow oil company BP.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, nearly everyone pitched in to help. Even Wal-Mart lent its vaunted logistics expertise to the devastated Gulf Coast. We believe your companies should do the same for this disaster, particularly because your efforts to undermine regulations and promote risky, environmentally destructive practices helped produce the disaster.

Your companies have spent the most money out of the 15 oil companies that have contributed to the Dirty Energy Proposition in California. We believe that money is much more appropriately spent to clean up the Gulf.
