Watch "California Closed" and then help stop the horrific budget deal that prioritizes oil company profits over children and the disabled

Tell California legislators to save lives and tax oil companies

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the leaders of the state legislature agreed to $15 billion in cuts that will cause 500,000
children to lose their health care, and will cause thousands of disabled Californians to lose their in-home caregivers.

Despite widespread public support for an oil severance tax that could prevent those cuts, the governor and legislative leaders chose to not include such a tax as part of the budget deal.

The budget isn't a done deal yet -- the legislature has pledged to vote on the deal on Thursday. That means we have less than 48 hours to fix it by telling our legislators to pass a budget that protects children and the disabled by making oil companies pay their
fair share in taxes.

Watch the "California Closed" video -- a heartbreaking video produced by community organizers Marta Evry and Laura Velkei -- and then sign the letter that we will deliver to every legislator before the budget vote.

We, the undersigned, urge the California legislature to reject the horrific budget deal proposed by the legislative leadership and Governor Schwarzenegger.

It is unacceptable to cut health care for 500,000 children or to eliminate in-home care for thousands of disabled Californians when an oil severance tax of 9.9% could generate as much as $1 billion per year and avoid those cuts -- without requiring any new drilling.

Please vote "no" on any budget that does not include an oil severance tax to protect children and the disabled.
