Team Courage, Orange County - Weekend For Equality! (Equality Team Event)
Hello Friends --

I wanted to inform you about some volunteer opportunities coming up in the near future.

Memorial Day weekend is going to be a busy day for Team Courage, Orange County! We have three events lined up and it is my hope that you can make at least one of them.

On Friday, May 22 we will be having a movie night! We will be viewing the controversial documentary "Outrage" opening that day at South Coast Village 3 in Santa Ana. While the exact showtime has yet to be determined (since that information is typically not available until no earlier than the week before), we are aiming for about a 7:00 PM show time. For more information about the movie please visit

Saturday, May 23 is the main event! We will be canvassing in the cities of Orange and Santa Ana and speaking with our neighbors about proposition 8 and how it has negatively affected gay and lesbian individuals, as well as their friends, families and loved ones. Whatever your story may be, whether you are a gay or lesbian individual who was denied your equal right to marry, or if you are a straight individual who was outraged by the turn out of the election because you know in your heart that proposition 8 was wrong, your story deserves and needs to be heard! Remember, NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY! We will train you and provide you with all the tools you need to talk to the voters in the area. Every volunteer helps us reach another 50 people! I hope you will join us to make our impact that much more effective!

Meeting location:
Hart Park
12:00PM - 4:00 PM
701 S. Glassell St .
Orange , CA 92866

A light lunch will be provided prior to the walk

Finally, our last event for this weekend will take place on Sunday, May 24. This is our "Equality Star Search Potluck." This event is unique in the sense that it is actually the kick off of a state wide competition among all the equality teams. We will be tasked with trying to locate volunteers of a certain nature (doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc.) and it will be our job to try and recruit as many, if not all, of the people on our list. There will be great prizes for the teams who get the most volunteers from their lists including a first place prize of a day with Cleve Jones!

I hope you can join us for this special event!

Meeting Location:
Woodbridge Park
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
20 Lake Road
Irvine, CA 92604

Please RSVP with your dish so we can plan accordingly(If you cannot participate in the potluck, but still want to come PLEASE DO!) That pretty much wraps up our events for Memorial Day weekend. I sincerely hope to see you at one or more of these events!

Please pass this information on and invite all of your friends to join us. Thank you so much for your support!

Best Wishes,

Team Courage - OC

About County Equality Teams
  • Based on the volunteer-driven Neighborhood Team model that proved successful during the Obama campaign, our Neighborhood Equality Teams provide the opportunity for people to be involved at a local level in this important movement for equality.
  • The mission of our Equality Teams is as follows:
    • Establish an active and visible presence in the community for marriage equality.
    • Develop relationships with local elected officials and supportive organizations to create an opportunity for sharing resources and building local power.
    • Coordinate regular voter contact actions - including canvasses, phone-banks, tabling at community events, and registering new voters.
    • Represent the community in important state-wide actions, trainings, and conference calls focused on marriage equality.
  • Over the past six months, local activists have established 44 Equality Teams in 23 counties.  Those teams have hosted more than 140 events, knocked on thousands of doors and have held countless successful and moving conversations with undecided California voters.
