OCT 3 IN SAN FRANCISCO: Maine “NO on 1” phonebank: Join Courage Campaign, EQCA & SF Dems to protect Maine’s marriage equality (Equality Team Event)
Stop another Prop 8 from happening! Join Courage Campaign's San Francisco Equality Team, Equality California, and the San Francisco Democratic Party in helping protect marriage equality in Maine!

After a bill to allow same-sex marriage in Maine was signed into law on May 6, 2009, Maine became the fifth U.S. state to recognize same-sex marriage, and the second to do so through legislative process rather than through a judicial ruling. The law would have taken effect on September 11, 2009, but will now be subject to a potential "people's veto" in Maine's November elections.

The stakes are extremely high in Maine. Right now, the same people that launched Prop 8 are airing fear-mongering TV ads in Maine that are carbon copies of the ads they aired last year in California.

In an election that is so close, a robust and disciplined field campaign can make all the difference. The Maine "NO on 1" campaign needs help making voter ID and persuasion phone calls. And that's where you can help.

A win in Maine will be an historic win for the movement for marriage equality!

About County Equality Teams:
  • Based on the volunteer-driven Neighborhood Team model that proved successful during the Obama campaign, our Neighborhood Equality Teams provide the opportunity for people to be involved at a local level in this important movement for equality.
  • The mission of our Equality Teams is as follows:
    • Establish an active and visible presence in the community for marriage equality.
    • Develop relationships with local elected officials and supportive organizations to create an opportunity for sharing resources and building local power.
    • Coordinate regular voter contact actions - including canvasses, phone-banks, tabling at community events, and registering new voters.
    • Represent the community in important state-wide actions, trainings, and conference calls focused on marriage equality.
  • Over the past six months, local activists have established 44 Equality Teams in 23 counties.  Those teams have hosted more than 140 events, knocked on thousands of doors and have held countless successful and moving conversations with undecided California voters.
