David defeated Goliath in June’s primary and, thanks to the untiring work of progressives across California, Propositions 16 and 17 were defeated. Unfortunately, not everything went our way on Tuesday. Proposition 14 passed, limiting voter choices. Proposition 15 failed, preserving corporate dominance of campaign finance.

We need to keep fighting, as right-wingers and corporations organize to launch new ballot initiatives to crush progressive values in California. Big oil companies, led by Valero, Tesoro and Occidental are already spending millions to kill our clean energy and anti-pollution laws in the November election -- and we can't afford to lose.

Progressives will be going on offense as well, with the cannabis legalization initiative and other measures going to the ballot in November.
