On Tuesday the Advocate magazine (the nation’s largest gay publication) released a startling analysis of the final voting numbers concerning Proposition 8. California blacks were found to have voted 57% in favor of Proposition 8, not 70% as previously believed. The study also concluded that race was not the most significant factor affecting people’s vote for or against marriage equality. Not only that, it revealed that age, religiosity, party identification, and ideology had more of an effect on whether voters backed Prop. 8 than any other factors. For instance, the rate of support for the initiative among African Americans and whites was nearly the same for those who attended church services regularly.

This is big news. And it makes me angry. All this time many African American supporters of No On 8 have been putting themselves on the line including myself— risking all kinds of retaliation in our own communities because were led to believe that an overwhelming black majority had voted in favor of oppression of another minority group who were fighting for their civil rights.

Now we find out that this wasn’t the case—-at all. Nowhere near the case, in fact. While 57% in favor of Prop 8 is still a little over half, that number is a helluva lot different than 70%.

It makes me wonder if recent reports on black male youth and crime are inflated as well. It makes me wonder who benefited from the previous lie--the story about blacks voting 70% in favor of the ugly prop. The whole thing calls to mind Charlie Manson and his theory in terms of why he ordered the deaths of Sharon Tate and those other heinous murders. Manson believed that the time of Helter Skelter had come; imagining that the Beatles had spoken to him through their songs Manson saw a vision. Here's the Wikipedia description of Manson's Helter Skelter:

"Ghastly murders of whites by blacks would be met with retaliation, and a split between racist and non-racist whites would yield whites' self-annihilation. Blacks' triumph, as it were, would merely precede their being ruled by the Family, which would ride out the conflict in "the bottomless pit" -- a secret city beneath Death Valley."

So is that what's happening--someone trying to create yet another Helter Skelter after Manson's failure? But in this case blacks against gays and vice versa. Let's set up the niggas and the fags to fight it out. Was that the game plan this time? And who's the Charlie this time-the mastermind behind this recent Helter Skelter scenario. I've never been one to believe in conspiracies-especially those hatched in the minds of the insane. But I gotta tell ya, this fabricated 70% business--a big fat lie the whole time. Blacks voted no more in favor of Prop 8 then California's latino population. A friend (a gay white activist) says this whole thing is the handy work of Republican conservatives. And you know what? I think I believe him. Welcome to the era of the new Charlie, folks. Having failed with this latest Helter Skelter scheme I'm sure there's more to come. And he's more evil and dangerous than the real Charlie could ever hope to be.
