Yesterday's legislative hearing on election problems in Los Angeles stretched all afternoon, with several hours of testimony from Dean Logan, Conny McCormack and others before voters got the opportunity to make their case. The Daily Breeze notes that Dean Logan was greeted by boos from the crowd of concerned voters and election integrity activists, but as BradBlog explains (drawing in part from the same article), Conny McCormack tried blaming Secretary of State Debra Bowen for the double bubble problem and
In spite of McCormack's attempts to pass the buck in every direction possible, the attention on the double bubble issue has led to a revised ballot for the June 3 primary and more changes to come:
The Courage Campaign was able to raise awareness about this hearing by informing our Los Angeles County supporters about it. As a result, a number of election integrity advocates showed up again yesterday to share their experiences and opinions. [Sen. Jenny] Oropeza, who chairs the Senate Select Committee on Integrity of Elections, said she planned to draft legislation to improve poll worker training, ballot instructions and communication between the Secretary of State's Office and the county registrars.
She also criticized the culture of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's Office, saying it had shown a tendency to be "rigid in one's point of view, and to not listen when there's going to be a problem."
Oropeza said she would also urge other legislators from Los Angeles County to get together to advocate that the InkaVote system be scrapped.
