Censure Resolution Goes Unheard

The Executive Board of the California Democratic Party meeting just adjourned without the resolution to censure Senator Dianne Feinstein being heard. A move from the floor today to allow a discussion of the topic was denied.

More to come later. While we did not get the resolution addressed there is no doubt that your voices were heard. From the Women's Caucus endorsement to Art Torres's address you changed the converation.

I am on my phone so I have not been able to check the latest numbers but we were just under 32,000 at 8 am today.

Forget censure, how about a recall?
By C. Jones Nov 18th 2007 at 3:50 pm PST
Since Diane Feinstein has shown herself to be more interested in the success of her husband's defense industry interests than in the Constitution, and is more than willing to sell us out to the Neo-Cons, maybe someone should start recall procedures against her?

If a self-interested Republican could get Gray Davis recalled, why shouldn't the people be able to recall Feinstein for her blatant pandering to the right? And I speak as a previously loyal supporter and constituent of hers; I have never been more disappointed in one of my elected officials.

Time for a recall!!!!

Forget 5 more years of out-of-touch politics.

we need people that are going to work for the people, not self-interest.

Unfortunately, only State officials can be recalled. A US Senate Seat is a Federal office and would have to be impeached. This would require articles of impeachment of some sort. Signature gathering, It would take a vote of something like 2/3 or 3/4 of the US House and Senate ratification. This is my understanding of the general overall process but don't hold me to the specific details. I do know that she can't be recalled; only impeached.

Do some homework

If all wish to do more than just change the conversation at the CDP it's time to READ THE CDP RULES.Several of the attempts to push the Progressive agenda could have been handled far better with the help of a Parliamentarian or someone knowledgeable in the Bylaws of the CDP. With something as contentious as censure it was obvious from the (late)gitgo that the necessary unanimous vote in Resolutions Committee was not going to happen. The attempt to bring the resolution to the full committee was futile, because you can't suspend a BYLAW under any circumstances. An alternative might have been a cooperative effort to pass censure in all 19 of the CDP Caucuses. That might at least have produced some exposure in the MSM and attracted DiFi's attention. As for Recall, come on folks, we have enough to do in 2008 without adding a circular firing squad.
You do have allies in the "party establishment"who are willing to help. There's a far better chance of winning the game if you learn the rules.

Democrats In Name Only need to be outed
By James Rowen Nov 19th 2007 at 8:53 am PST
I do applaud your efforts, and as a former member of the DNC, I would have supported your resolution coming to the floor for a vote. It is too bad Senator Feinstein does not listen to true Democrats. Here, in Santa Clara, we have a crew of people claiming to be Democratic activists, but they are allied with Republican Party volunteers and forming a political action committee concerning the 49er stadium. This crew of people have even tried to publicly attack our Mayor, who is a liberal and progressive Democratic Party club activist. It is a shame that the local Democrats in Name Only, named Santa Clara Plays Fair have even written to Dianne Feinstein praising her on her efforts to fight the activists on a variety of issues. Keep up the fight.
