Want to talk dirty... tricks with Bradley Whitford ("The West Wing") and Jane Hamsher?

Bradley Whitford, who became famous on the legendary political drama, The West Wing, has joined us at Courage Campaign to oppose the latest Republican dirty trick. Along with Jane Hamsher, you can participate in a Courage Conference Call on Monday to talk about how we'll put a stop to these GOP dirty tricks in California.
Here's the invitation from Rick Jacobs:

Want to talk dirty… tricks?
We would like to invite you to a special Courage Campaign conference call this Monday, September 24, with Bradley Whitford ("The West Wing"), Jane Hamsher (firedoglake.com), John Amato (CrooksandLiars.com) and Ben Tulchin, California's pollster for Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research.
We'll also be joined by netroots and grassroots activists from across California and America. Inspired by our netroots-driven campaign, bloggers David Dayen ("dday") and Dante Atkins ("hekebolos") got together with other netroots activists in Los Angeles and independently shot and produced a YouTube video endorsing Courage's "No Dirty Tricks" campaign.
You can RSVP for Monday's 4 p.m. PDT conference call and watch this netroots-only "No Dirty Tricks" YouTube video right now:

Dirty tricks, you say?
Yes, the Republicans are at it again with one of the most dangerous initiatives ever put before voters. If the so-called "Presidential Election Reform Act" passes on June 3, 2008, California will unilaterally be forced to divide up its electoral college votes by congressional district, resulting in the Republican theft of at least 20 electoral votes in November's general election -- the equivalent of Ohio.
That means that right-wing Republicans will lock down the White House for another four years and beyond to build on Karl Rove and George W. Bush's legacy of dirty tricks to subvert our democracy. No wonder the New York Times issued a scathing editorial ("Stacking the Electoral Deck") calling this Republican power grab an "elaborate dirty trick" by a "shadowy group" of California Republicans that will "do serious damage to our democracy."
Enough is enough. No more dirty tricks. Not in California. Not in America.
With your help, we're going to defeat this initiative. Netroots bloggers and grassroots activists from across the country are joining Courage Campaign to stop these right-wingers from hijacking the White House.
Will you?
Join me, Bradley Whitford, Jane Hamsher, John Amato and Ben Tulchin on Monday at 4 p.m. PDT to talk dirty tricks and Courage Campaign's netroots-driven movement to stop them:

We want to hear your questions and suggestions about the GOP's dirty trick initiative. I will be hosting the call and will take questions emailed ahead of time as well as live ones from participants on the call. So, after you RSVP, please submit your questions on the form provided.
Space is limited, so please RSVP ASAP. We will contact you via email with the conference call dial-in information:

We are looking forward to joining you, Bradley, Jane, John and Ben on the call!
And thank you again for everything you are doing to take back our country from these dirty tricksters.

I much rather see this initiative get in the court system, as opposed to it getting on the ballot....Many people would never show up on June 3rd., as by then the primaries will be over, & many would not bother going to voting booths on June 3rd..
I think this needs to be taken to court, in that way there'd be no chance it would take effect in Nov. 2008....

Plus, courts rarely rule on the constitutionality of an initiative until after it passes. The basis for a challenge prior to passage typically has to be on procedural grounds, not substantive grounds, because an initiative can't harm a defendant until it's actually law.
Damn, I hope so..I'm losing sleep over this proposed initiative, because if it would pass, & NO other states (especially TX, FL, OH, MO) split their EV's, I can't see how the Democratic nominee can win next Nov....
I personally think if you're going to do election reform, 2 things need to happen: 1)it has to be done in every state, & 2) If EV are going to be split, should be done on the % basis of the state won...If candiate wins state by 10% > (a landslide in political terms) candiate receives all the states EV's..If candiate wins state 51-49%, candiate receives say 60-65% of that states EV's....With gerrymandering, splitting EV's by districts won is an awful idea...
Here's my post about it at my own blog: Link
