Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger continued to campaign against the center of John McCain's offshore drilling - energy plan during a surprise visit to Florida's Climate Change Summit hosted by the sunshine state's governor, Charlie Crist.
Crist is holding a climate change summit for the second time since meeting with our governor, who convinced him to push for green policies similar to California. Crist is no moderate, but has received rave reviews from Florida's African American community for reinstating voting rights for ex-felons (passed into law there during 1860s to disenfranchise black voters).
But like any ambitious politician who chooses self-interest over societal interest, Crist spoke out last week in support of McCain's call for offshore drilling.
Why? Because he has a spot on John McCain's vice presidential short list. He's a popular governor in a swing state, young and maintains a great tan.
All credit due to Arnie, he took McCain's ridiculous offshore drilling proposal and the Florida Legislature to task at the summit. The Herald Tribune reports:
Good for California, its nice to know that when the going gets tough, Schwarzenegger gets green. Its difficult to identify any other issue that he has maintained his integrity on. Schwarzenegger is showing real leadership while McCain and Crist play to the crowd.

- "America is so addicted to oil that it will take years to ween ourselves from it," Schwarzenegger said. "To look for new ways to feed our addiction is not the answer."
"Anyone who tells you this would bring down gas prices anytime soon is blowing smoke," he added.
Schwarzenegger also indirectly criticized the Florida Legislature's decision not to adopt California's Clean Cars legislation, which would lead to all new vehicles averaging 43 miles per gallon by 2016 and was supported by Crist.
