Marriage: Separate But Equal No More

In a much anticipated decision released just minutes ago, the California Supreme Court overturned a 2000-voter approved law in which the state only recognizes marriage between one woman and one man.
The just decision by the state's high court validates the marriages officiated by Mayor Gavin Newsom back in 2004 which sparked mountains of controversy around the nation.
Also, the ideologically conservative tilted court relied on a landmark civil rights case (Perez v. Sharp) from 60 years ago which struck down a state law that prohibited interracial marriage on the grounds that it interfered with the fundamental constitutional right to marry.
If you are in to reading legal mumbo jumbo as I call it, you can review the court's approval of gay marriageHere.
As history and human law records, "separate but equal" was never equal, and separate laws for straight and same-sex couples were never equal either. Now that justice prevails, we must recognize that the religious right is currently collecting signatures to ban same-sex marriage via a statewide ballot initiative.
To paraphrase the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as those evil men plot, we good men must plan.
