Discrimination against sexual preference and individual choice of partners undermines everyone's rights while marriage has no place under the control or restriction by any political authority! Religious marriage can have no rights what so ever under the law. People married religiously obtain the same rights as anyone who agrees to a contract to form a family by signing the same contract. Religious marriage can neither create such a contract or dissolve it. Let us create a new Proposition which terminates Prop 8 and creates a State Wide Law for a contract which establishes a family under the law. Such families will have all rights presently accorded a married couple. No limit can be set on such a family for size, religion, sex, race or any other restriction except that each member is of legal age and each member joins the family of their own free will. No on 8! No on any tie between the state and marriage! We have a chance to do the issue of equal rights for all partners the right way! There is an ignorance in the No on 8 movement of the need to address common law couples in CA (a very large group) and those who have organized themselves as a family but have more then two adult members. We all seem to forget the twin brothers who live together or the aunt who is an integral part of the family. These latter members do not have the rights of spouses despite the intent of the family members. These forgotten people can make the difference at the polls!
